SSSAD Awards Coaching, Service and Officiating Honors Jun 27, 2009
With the 2008-2009 athletic year complete, SSSAD honored some of its finest with coaching, service, and offfical award honors.
Dave Elder of Holy Cross has been awarded with a coaching merit award for 2008-2009. The long time Holy Cross coach coached the Holy Cross Boys wrestling team to a first place finish in the league and city championship. He followed that up by leading the Crusaders to a gold medal fisnish at the Provincial High School Wrestling Championship. Elder also was an assistant coach with the Sr. Crusader football team and is one of the most experienced officials in Saskatoon for pole vault at the City and Provincial Championship. Coach Elder has long been regarded as one of the classisest people in high school sport and it is an honor to work with him in high school sport. Wemdy Benson of Aden Bowman has also been awarded with a coacing merit award. Benson is an experienced basketball coach who has led several programs at Aden Bowman. She has coached at the Jr. Girls basketball level, had much success at the city and provincial basketball level with the Sr. Girls basketball team and this year provided leadership as an assistant coach with the Sr. Boys basketball team that captured the City Championship and represented Saskatoon at the Provnicial Basketball Championship. Wendy has also been serving as an assistant coach with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Basketball team.
In the officials category, SSSAD honored Janice-Walker Szaroz, a starter's assistant in track and field, for her long tme service with high school and elementary track and field. Official Szaroz is a level 5 certified official and one of the highest regarded officials in Saskatoon.
In the service category, SSSAD honored Bruce Bradsaw of Walter Murray with a SHSAA Service Award. Bradshaw is the commissioner of hgh school football in Saskatoon and the head scorekeeper and timekeeper. He also serves as the site convenor for the Jr. Boys Basketrball Championship at Walter Murray and is often heard as an announcer at the City Track and Field Championship. SSSAD also recognized Bob Klein, a long time football official, for his many years of service in hgh school football. Official Klein is one of the most respected officials of football in Saskatoon and has been honored with many city and provincial football officiating assignments. SSSAD also honored Gerry Schreimer of MD Ambulance for his many years of coordinating the medical assignements for Jr. Football, wrestling, and cheerleading. SSSAD relies heavily on his commitment to high school sport and his dedication to ensuring the safety of our students.
