Saskatoon Sends 60 Strong To Provincials posted: Oct 13, 2008
| Ready or not here we come. Saskatoon will send their best 60 cross country athletes to the Provincial High School Cross Country Championship in Outlook on October 11. Athletes who have been been chasing or running away from competitors and foes for the past few weeks. will now join forces and become friends to form a team which will represent Saskatooon at the Provincial Championship.
Head coach Janet Christ from Walter Murray has just more than a week to bring a collection of individuals together from a number of schools across the city to help Saskatoon defend its district title at the Provinicial Championship. The top 10 finishers in each of the six age categories at the City Championship will wear Saskatoon colors in Outlook. Team meetings and team practices have been worked into the preparation plan to build a cohesive group and a collective force. Holy Cross will return a strong group of athletes and will attempt to defend its provincial team title from 2007. Walter Murray will look to better its 3rd place team showing at the 2007 championship in Prince Albert.
Individual, school team honors, and district recognition are on the line at the championship. That is a lot to carry on the back over distances of 3k to 6k. You are only as strong as the sum of the parts. If meets in September and the City Championship are any indication, Saskatoon will be sending a united group, and a talented mix of individuals which will be difficult to catch in Outlook. Whether over hills, through sand, in dry or wet conditions, Saskatoon will be prepared.
On your mark, go........ and hurry back. Good luck to our athletes at the Provincial Championship! ...

| Cross Cruises to Second Cross Country Provincial Championship posted: Oct 11, 2008
| Saskatoon won the first place team pennant in the Jr. Girls and Sr. Girls categories, a major feat for Saskatoon who hasn't captured a pennant in years. Both categories were deep for Saskatoon who sent several strong runners in each of the divisions. The story of the day, however, was the Holy Cross Crusaders who showed at every meet in the Saskatoon cross country scene that they had some elite runners in several categories. It wasn't a matter if they would win in most cases but by how much. The same cast of characters for Holy Cross brought their A game to Outlook as well and they were well prepared as a trip to Outlook earlier in the week had them very comfortable with the Outlook course on championship Saturday. It did not come as a surprise to the Saskatoon contingent who have been looking at the back of their jerseys all season. Holy Cross captured gold in 3 of the six age categories.
Gabrielle Edwards of Holy Cross in the midget girls category captured the gold medal and was crowned provincial champion. She was impressive in her final races on the local scene and cruised over the Outlook course which featured a major hill climb and major descent ove the 3k loop. Also capturing gold for Holy Cross was Abby Millar in the Sr. Girls category who couldn't be caught all season in Saskatoon and was comfortable again with the lead in Outlook. Rounding out the Crusaders gold medalists was James Leakos who dominated all year at cross country meet and captured the Provincial Championship in impressive fashion in Outlook. Saskatoon City Champion Davis Guenther of Holy Cross also had a great day, capturing the silver medal in the midget boys category.
It was an incredible cross country season for Saskatoon which enjoyed great competition throughout the season. For two seasons in a row, Holy Cross has settled for a second place finish in the Saskatoon City Championship, but wil...

| There will be over 200 athlestes competing for individual honors, age category pennants, and the team city championship at the 2008 City High School Cross Country Championship. 14 Schools will take part at the Ctiy Championship course at Lakewood Park. Walter Murray returns as three time defending City Champions and Holy Cross looks strong as the defending Provincial Champions. It is anybody's guess who will take the team title in 2008 as things are very tight over the 6 age categories. Other schools may play the spoiler roll in deciding the team title
The Midget Girls will compete over 3000 m while the midget boys, junior girls and senior girls run over a 4000 metre distance. Junior boys are challenged witha 5000 metre course and the senior boys will be test over 6000 metres. 4 races have helped prepare the athletes for the the City Championship distance.
Gabrielle Edwards and Mackenzie Chartier from Holy Cross have been impressive in the Midget Girls Category. Also contending for a title will be Densie Humphries from St. Joseph fishing first, second and third in three previous meets. Davis Guenther has been consistent in his runs in earlier qualifiying meets and will be a strong finsher in the midget boys category.
In the junior girls category, Leia Fedyk of St. Joseph and Gwen Vanderkamp of Holy Cross have had strong runs in preliminary events. In the junior age group for boys, John Waslen of Evan Hardy has looked very strong with sub 18 minute times and a host of Walter Murray runner will be looking to finish in the medals.
It will take a very strong effort to beat Abby Miller from Holy ross in the senior girls age group with 14 minute times, nearly 2 minutes ahead of her strongest competitor. Courtney Sjodin of Bedford Road has been the next best finisher, trying to just keep a...

| Holy Cross- St. Joes Nippin at the Heels of Maruaders in Cross Country posted: Sep 10, 2008
| For Walter Murray, it has always been "Catch us if you can!" Holy Cross and St. Joes may be accepting the challenge if the first two cross country meets on the schedule are any indication. Though it is true, Walter Murray still leads the field with impressive depth and great numbers in all categories for cross country, Holy Cross and St. Joseph have strong talent leading the way in midget girls and senior boys. Will the trend hold true all the way to the city championship? Commitment to training and practice may determine the answer to that question and whether a strong team can beat individual talent once again in 2008. Diefenbaker Park proved a solid test for competitiors in Week 2. Next for the runners will be a new challenge at Brevoort Park on September 17. Time will tell if the Maruuders will be looking over their shoulder, chasing down their foes or continuing the tend of peaking gradually toward their goal of a 4th consecutive city championship and leaving the competition in their dust. ...

| Marauders Mauling Over 4 in a Row posted: Aug 24, 2008
| Walter Murray will be heading into the 2008 season as 3 time defending City Cross Country Champions. Using the 4D model for success, the Marauders look for depth, dedication, distance and desire to help them take a strangle hold on the City Championship Crown. Annually, Walter Murray has the most students participating and competing for its team compared to other schools and it is that depth which has helped them accumulate many points toward the city title, but their dedication, training program, and enthusiasm for the sport is a model for all. The cross country season begin its season with the "Juiced to Run" competition on September 3 in the North End park behind Marion Graham Collegiate.
